The “We Love You South Africa” banner first appeared on Table Mountain, but it is now making its way around the country to promote love and unity!
Western Cape, South Africa (19 July 2021) – A banner filled with love for South Africa was first spotted on Table Mountain on Friday, and then in Bo Kaap on Sunday… where will it be next as the message to promote love and unity moves around the country?
Seven South Africans originally put up the banner – John Armstrong, Mark De Klerk, Kennedy John, Cara Saven, Elvis Chikata and Dylan Joseph – who wanted to remind the country that we are united!
“We are one, we are South Africans. We share each other’s losses and celebrate each other’s wins. Mandela United all of us. We must up-date our narrative of helpless humans: We are powerful together.
Being brave is not about not being scared, it’s about being scared and showing up as you are.”
Speaking to Good Things Guy, Joseph explained that the banner was born from an idea to just show the country some love. The group of friends woke up at 4 am on Friday and carried the 30 kilogram banner up the mountain hoping that the message would reverberate across the country.
“We need to be brave and we need to remember that we are stronger together.”
SANParks stopped the group on the way down and warned them that they actually needed to ask permission to do something like this, but felt that the banner could stay up for a little while longer as it was such a beautiful message… one that the country desperately needs right now.
The group then hiked back up Table Mountain to take it down but decided to move it to various locations around South Africa to keep the message alive! Yesterday, the banner appeared in the heart of Bo Kaap to celebrate Mandela day. Today it is being moved to a new location!
“There is word that business owners around the country who are part of the “Entrepreneurs Organisation” are standing together to support affected businesses in the rest of the country and that the banner will be making its way to Durban.
We are proud to be a part of spreading a message of togetherness that backs this country and its people.
If you know somewhere or a business owner this message can be displayed to show support please comment in the post and we’ll send the graphics for you to print off or share.”
Joseph just wants to share the love and remind South Africans that we are united. He has, however, listened to SANParks and is now looking for permission to place the banner in various places or even businesses (who may have the space to accommodate the massive banner).
