The Midrand SPCA recently showcased the dedication and compassion of its team in a remarkable rescue mission. When a terrified puppy was spotted trapped in a drainpipe, inspectors Jerry Seemise and Arnold Maake sprang into action to save the day.

Midrand, South Africa (06 January 2025) – Truly, there are no great lengths, or nooks and crannies, that the confessed defenders of the voiceless animals in need won’t go to at the Midrand SPCA.

This was beautifully displayed when Inspector Jerry Seemise and Animal Health Technician Arnold Maake swiftly responded to the call about an abandoned puppy that had wandered off and ended up stuck in a low and narrow drain pipe.

According to the animal welfare society, the pup had landed in a difficult-to-reach position, making it incredibly difficult for Maake to reach him despite his greatest efforts to lie completely down on the ground and try to access it.

“After assessing the situation they soon realised that there was no way that they could get down this pipe to rescue the dog. Leaving Arnold to keep an eye on the exit point,” the SPCA said.

But the quick-thinking team soon set up a dog trap with some tasty food, which the starving pup simply could not resist. He soon found himself in the caring hands of the inspectors and is now recuperating at the SPCA.

While his life before the rattling incident may not be known, this little guy has been shielded from further suffering and potential tragedy, all because of the unwavering dedication of a compassionate team.

Their commitment to never turning a blind eye to animals in need has made all the difference for him, and we salute their invaluable efforts. Thank you for all you do!
