Social media is buzzing once again after videos, and images of the rains in Northern Cape and the Klein Karoo started falling again this weekend.
Northern Cape, South Africa (03 February 2020) – Rejoice, rejoice, more rain has fallen in the drought-stricken areas of South Africa. The weekend was a fruitful one for South Africans in the Northern Cape and Klein Karoo. The towns once again received much-needed rain, some parts as much as 48mm.
Once again, social media has been flooded with videos and images of the rain and South Africans are overjoyed. In January of this year, Graaff-Reinet received much-needed rain.
Over the past nine years, Graaff-Reinet received only 13 ml of rain. The severe lack of water has seen farms dry up, killing off all vegetation. This has created a lack of food for livestock and thousands of animals have died from starvation.
The communities within the Karoo have become reliant on water supplies brought in by truck. The rain has long since been forgotten but after this weekend’s rain, the towns and country as a whole, are rejoicing once again. They are thankful for the more substantial than usual downpour that occurred.
The story is the same in many parts of the Eastern and Northern Cape. That is why sights like this bring tears of joy to the eyes and relief like no other!
