Eighty-five young adult volunteers from ASEZ WAO recently transformed the Orlando Police Station by lending a hand to clean and clear the station’s overgrown garden.

Soweto, South Africa (23 January 2025) – The Orlando Police Station’s garden got some much-needed sprucing up this past Sunday.

Eighty-five ASEZ WAO volunteers joined forces with police officers to clear long grass and tree branches, collect litter both inside and outside the police station, and organise materials in the station yard in collaboration with the police station commander.

ASEZ WAO is a volunteer group of young adults from the World Mission Society Church of God. This group is dedicated to improving the well-being of humanity and the planet by caring for their neighbours and communities, fueled by the passion and positive energy of young adults. ASEZ stands for “Save the Earth from A to Z,” while WAO stands for “We Are One.” They actively participate in environmental protection activities to make a meaningful impact.

Colonel Ngubane, who represented the Station Commander, lauded the volunteers who gathered and drove the initiative to make a lasting impact.

“Your actions demonstrate the values of compassion, empathy, and love that our faith teaches us. By giving your time and energy to this noble cause you have shown that we are not just a community but the family that looks out for one another.

“I would like to extend my sincere appreciation to every one of you who participated in this initiative, your efforts will not only improve the physical environment of the police station. It will also leave the spirit of the members”, she said.

Leading up to the clean-up campaign, The Police Station had found it had become difficult to do garden maintenance and care in the police station due to budget constraints.

“We used to have a company to take care of the grass and the landscaping of the police station yard, however due to low budgets from the state, we could not manage to hire a private company to do this work and we are thankful to ASEZ WAO for stretching out a hand to help us out with our police station,” Brigadier Khubeka from the police station said.

As the police station serves the public in various aspects, it is important how it appears to the public. The ASEZ WAO members were happy to lend a helping hand and put bright smiles on the police officers by taking care of their working environment, which helps serve the community of Orlando and the country of South Africa.
