This Valentine’s Day you can adopt two penguins for the price of one, all in the name of love and doing a little bit of good.

Cape Town, South Africa (03 February 2023) – In the lead-up to Valentine’s Day, you can ditch the expensive flowers and chocolates, and do something more meaningful – like adopt a penguin or two.

Many complain that the holiday is an overly commercialised waste of money and we are not here to disagree. But for those that do like to splurge on their loved one, you can also do it in a way that gives back to others. We are always here to support charitable gifts or gifts that keep on giving.

Each year, the Southern African Foundation for the Conservation of Coastal Birds (SANCCOB) launches a Valentine’s Day special where you can virtually adopt a penguin, and get a second penguin for free. It is a 2-for-1 deal that helps cover the cost of penguins in rehabilitation.

“Adopt and name one of our rehab penguins and get another one completely free! Remember, your adoption helps contribute to these penguins’ rehabilitation and eventual release.”

You’ll receive an email with a Certificate of Adoption and a special letter of thanks from ‘your’ penguins. Your donation helps cover the cost of fish, medication, water and other essentials the recovering seabirds need to grow strong enough for release back into the wild.

When the penguins arrive at SANCCOB, they are given a serial number but once adopted, they get given the name of your choice.

Penguins are adoptable throughout the year so even if you don’t need one for Valentine’s Day, you can adopt one for any and every major life day (birthdays, anniversaries, mother’s day, father’s day… you name it, you can do it!)

You can select your penguin here.

“This 2-for-1 promotion will end on 28 February 2023 and you can connect with Megan at Megan@sanccob.co.za for your second penguin adoption.”
