Western Cape Rain rainfall

Capetonians rejoiced yesterday when it started raining down heavily across parts of the Western Cape. Some even received giant balls of hail. Social media was flooded with images and videos of the rain and we have some of the best to show you.

Capetonians were overjoyed by the rain received yesterday. Many shared their videos and pictures of what they were seeing and it is marvellous. We have found some of the very best to share with you.

Gauteng Weather reported that Hermanus received over 30mm of rainfall which caused some flash flooding.

Another woman shared that she managed to catch 6 large containers of water from her gutters and planned to harvest as much rain as possible throughout the night.

Pieter De Waal took an incredible timelapse of a cloud formation over the ocean. He was battered by the wind but says it was so worth it.

“Filmed this pretty neat cloud formation using time-lapse today, south of Yzerfontein. Got hammered by strong wind, hail and rain right after this, while camping, but couldn’t be more content” – Pieter De Waal

One Capetonian didn’t share an image but rather a thought. We found it pretty funny!

“So typically when there is Thunder and Lightening parents are grabbing their kids to safety inside the house. BUT when in Cape Town parents are moering you outside with buckets to collect the rain …. #droughtproblems” – Kyle Jackson

Quite a few photographers captured images of the Lightning storm over Table Mountain. The images are breathtaking!

The best picture by far was the man that stopped in peak-hour traffic, got out of his car and began to pay in the rain. It was incredibly moving and we shed a tear looking at the image. You can get the full story here.
