Port Elizabeth Fires

Community members have taken to social media to help each other with new blazes in the Port Elizabeth area which flared up late last night.

The Herald Live reported an hour ago that the N2 has been closed temporarily in Port Elizabeth with Woodridge College and Preparatory School being evacuated.

The kids are all being taken to “Baywest”.

Nelson Mandela Bay municipal spokesman Mthubanzi Mniki has said that the fire spread last night due to an increase in wind speed.

“Woodridge College evactuations have been done due to smoke.

“People who are not part of the emergency services working on fires are warned not to come to the areas where fire fighting work is happening as they obstract, disturb and disseminate wrong information that causes unnecessary panic”, Mniki said.

Meanwhile community members in the area were using social media to get assistance and offer help. Some were sharing information about the fires, while others were using the platforms to offer their help.

Emergency services have requested that no unnecessary traffic pass through the area as the roads are narrow and might hinder their operations.
