Watch: Rescue team save horse trapped in an 8-meter hole

A Durban search and rescue team worked till late in the night to save a horse who had been trapped in an 8-meter hole for two days.

KwaZulu Natal, South Africa – A wild horse was rescued after falling into a disused Septic tank pit on a farm near Richmond.

The Coastal Horse unit put out a plea on Facebook for assistance and Rene Hoffman; an avid horse lover contacted the Blue Angels community support team from Blue Security in Durban. The Blue Angels team mobilised to the scene, and after a quick assessment, the word was put out to get search and rescue crews to help with the horse.

Lee Bryant – an off duty search and rescue member from Metro Police – arrived on the scene a short while later and helped to mobilise SAPS Search and Rescue from Pmb, the DUT advanced life support crew and Metro Police search and rescue from Durban.

The horse, now nicknamed Freedom was under great distress and had to be sedated for the duration of the rescue.

After a 4-hour rescue operation and two days in an 8-meter x 2-meter space, the rescuers using their skill, experience and dedication worked tirelessly to save this horses life
