The 5-week-old serval kitten rescued last week is loving her formula and is now also being fed a few solids; watch her enjoying her formula.

Johannesburg, South Africa (07 May 2021) – It has been a week since the Johannesburg Wildlife Veterinary Hospital took in a 5-week-old Serval kitten. They initially shared her story to ask for assistance in feeding her with a special formula.

Now the feisty young kitten is ready to start eating solids too!

The 5-week-old kitten was found alone, and it became evident that she would not be reunited with her mother. The serval kitten was taken to the Johannesburg Wildlife Veterinary Hospital to be treated. The vets are currently feeding her eight times a day using a special formula to ensure she grows well. You will see the adorable video of her drinking her formula below.

“Last week we introduced you to a Serval kitten (Leptailurus serval) in our care. Thank you SO much to everyone that contributed to her care. While she was initially on multiple feeds of special milk formula per day, she now also enjoys rodents and small birds too.

Sincere thank you to everyone who has donated thus far. She is growing rapidly, feeding well and becoming way feistier than she once was!”

Once the kitten is old enough, she will be moved onto solids full-time and moved to a soft release site before being released back into the wild. This will take several months and many delicious meals.

The One Meal initiative helps feed all the little patients until they are strong enough for soft release. By breaking down their dietary costs into one meal costs, people can easily forgo a coffee to provide one meal to an animal in need.

The Johannesburg Wildlife Vet’s feeding programme is called “One Meal“, and it allows the public to support their various rescues by paying for one meal. You can see all the ways to donate her meals below too.

You can make a donation via direct deposit using the details below or find other ways via their website here. The vet treats indigenous animals free of charge, relying solely on the donations and support of their community.
