Pinetown, South Africa – A brave dog survived for nearly two years alone, waiting for her family to find her again.

Pet Rescue Pinetown shared an inspirational post after a white Timber Wolf Cross Malamute dog named Shakira was found after being missing for over 19 months!

The Pet Rescue initiative is based in Pinetown and the incredible South Africans behind the initiative started the networking page to help pets find new and forever loving homes. The volunteers assist with reporting lost, found and stray pups while also trying to give one last chance to senior dogs needing love and compassion in their last days.

And they recently shared the most amazing story about Shakira making her way home again.

“Today is the happiest day for Phillip and Paula whose dog Shakira went missing on 30th September 2017 after a troop of monkeys scared her, and she jumped the 5ft wall of their property.”

The Pet Rescue team have stayed in contact with Phillip since the pup went missing and followed up on all leads but unfortunately could not find Shakira.

“Then yesterday Phillip phoned Andreas and said word had got to him that there had been sightings of a scruffy wolf type dog at the Windsor Park golf course for the past 19 months but that she was very skittish and was only seen after dark and it seemed she was coming from out of a drainpipe near the 12th hole.”

Phillip spoke to a lady named Sam and a guy named Lloyd who work there and had sometimes spotted the skittish dog late at night.

The Pet Rescue team told Phillip that they would arrange a search party for Saturday. However, she was spotted on the Wednesday night again, and so the family immediately rushed there.

Shakira was terrified and ran back to the drain pipe. Paula quietly sat down nearby and softly coaxed her. Eventually Shakira slowly came out and started smelling Paula’s arms. She then realised this was her mom and was so excited she ran and jumped into the car without hesitation!

She was taken straight to the vet where she spent the night under observation and was given her vaccinations. The next day Phillip fetched Shakira and took her back home again.

Thank you to Pet Rescue Pinetown for assisting and for sharing the amazing story!
