Somkhanda Game Reserve, South Africa (07 February 2025) – This Valentine’s season, you can show your love for wildlife by supporting WILDTRUST’s Somkhanda K9 Unit, a team of dedicated furry friends and handlers working tirelessly to protect endangered wildlife from poaching.
The Somkhanda Community Game Reserve is a sanctuary for South Africa’s iconic wildlife and is dedicated to conserving biodiversity and uplifting local communities.
To improve anti-poaching initiatives and protect endangered species found at this reserve, Somkhanda has established a K9 Unit. This unit greatly enhances wildlife protection while also offering local community members opportunities for skills development and sustainable careers, thereby promoting both environmental and social resilience.
According to WILDTRUST, K9 Units are a proven force in combating wildlife crime:
