Even though our newsfeeds are filled with tragedy, heartwarming moments in this conflict remind us that there is always an opportunity for kindness.

Ukraine (1 March 2022) – According to the UN, More than 500,000 refugees have fled Ukraine since Russia’s invasion, some have been travelling for up to a week, and many have left family behind in Ukraine, but alongside this tragic news, we are finding moments of kindness.

BBC Newsnight Policy Editor Lewis Goodall reported from Przemyśl station in Poland, a few miles from the Ukrainian-Polish border, showing moments that the history books might forget.

Wives leaving their husbands behind with pride knowing that they are standing up for their country, volunteers distributing food and medical supplies for free to everyone waiting to get to safety, people giving strangers free transport to various parts of Europe, sometimes driving for days and then there are the droves of brave men and women catching the trains back into central Ukraine to fight alongside their neighbours.
