Gretel might be the cutest little creature you see today, and she is changing the world’s perspective on Spiders.

Global (31 March 2021) – Gretel is a little old spider who is changing the way the internet sees these little creatures… because she is so damn cute!

In recent years there has been a huge effort to get people to change their minds about spiders! Many people fear them while these little creatures are a significant part of our ecological system and are actually quite harmless. Spiders are not aggressive at all and will either try to run away from people, before defending themselves. Spiders are more scared of humans than we are of them and many are exceptional at hiding or camouflaging themselves, in the hope we don’t even see them.

Gretel is a little jumping spider. As of 2019, the jumping spider family contained over 600 described genera and over 6000 described species, making it the largest family of spiders at 13% of all species. Jumping spiders have some of the best vision among arthropods and use it in courtship, hunting, and navigation. Although they normally move unobtrusively and fairly slowly, most species are capable of very agile jumps, notably when hunting, but sometimes in response to sudden threats or crossing long gaps.

Emily Hess, Gretel’s mom, recently posted a video showing what happens when a spider starts to get old, and it’s left the internet with a whole new perspective on these little creatures. Many have said how it made them cry.

“Like people, sometime tiny creatures just need a little help.”
