This Mother’s Day, you can spoil mom by having an indigenous Tree Wisteria planted on her behalf to reforest South Africa with local, beneficial trees.

South Africa (03 May 2022) – Mother’s Day is on the 8th of May 2022, and South African organisation Greenpop is honouring the indigenous Tree Wisteria (Bolusanthus speciosus) on behalf of all the awesome moms out there.

Did you know that Mother’s Day originated on 12 May 1907? Anna Jarvis organised a memorial to celebrate the work of her late mother, Ann Reeves Jarvis. Ann Reeves Jarvis organised support groups for women and mothers. The memorial spurred the annual celebration of Mother’s Day as we know it today.

While the day is all about mom, you can also do more for the planet while celebrating the moms in your life. Greenpop helps people celebrate those special loved ones by gifting an indigenous tree to help reforest South Africa.

Each tree certificate purchased this Mother’s Day will support our Forests for Life project! The Forests for Life programme was created in 2018 and consolidated all Greenpop’s reforestation projects under one umbrella canopy. They plant a variety of indigenous trees, thus ensuring diversity in the reforested areas.

“Through this programme, we form long-term partnerships with small-scale organisations and provide support to plant trees, restore forest and woodland habitats, manage critical catchment areas, and improve the lives of communities that rely on forest resources in Sub-Saharan Africa.”

The tree certificates honour all kinds of occasions, and this Mother’s Day, you can celebrate your mom(s) with a Tree Wisteria or one of the many indigenous trees of Southern Africa.

“This Mother’s Day we are featuring one of South Africa’s most beautiful indigenous trees, the Tree Wisteria – not to be mistaken for the invasive Jacaranda Tree.

It attracts butterflies and birds, and wild animals such as monkeys, duikers and antelope who eat its pods and leaves.” – Greenpop
