Capetonians are rejoicing at the amount of rain they have received during their first seasonal rainfall. Social media has been flooded with images and videos of the water in the Cape.

May’s been a really good month for early season rain in the Western Cape. It has been raining steadily and the dams are slowly filling up, by almost 0,5% a day.

At the start of the week, dam levels were 24% full overall with one of the biggest dams – Theewaterskloof – at 14:9%. On Wednesday, 30 May, levels had risen to 24.8% with the Theewaterskloof 15.8% full.

Rivers headed towards Theewaterskloofdam have been filmed, showing a steady flow heading towards the dry area.

“After the persistent rain of recent days it is so awesome to see the water rushing into the Theewaterskloof Dam today!”
