Widespread rainfall and thunder are expected across the Western Cape from tomorrow morning so here are some tips for you and your boss.
Rainfall in the Western Cape is always happy news, especially now that the dams are above 50% full. Every drop will just mean more water stability for the drought-stricken province.
It has been predicted that heavy, widespread rainfall can be expected as well as the chances of flash flooding. This isn’t such good news! Capetonians can expect a LOT of rain and even some thundershowers.
The impact of heavy rainfall could lead to localised flooding of informal settlements, roads and low lying areas and bridges.
To be prepared in the event of an emergency here are some tips that might be useful.
- Drive slowly and with caution.
- Check that your wheels and windscreen wipers are in working order.
- Avoid driving through areas where flooding has occurred.
- Keep all emergency numbers on hand just in case. (See below)
City of Cape Town Services will be on standby to deal with any emergencies that arise from weather conditions. Members of the public are asked to contact 107 from a landline or 021 480 7700 from a cell phone to report any incidents.
“The SA Weather Service has advised the City’s Disaster Risk Management Centre that we can expect widespread showers and thundershowers across the Western Cape tomorrow (Friday) starting in the west and moving eastwards,” – Charlotte Powell, Disaster Risk Management spokesperson
“The bulk of the rainfall is expected for the Cape Metro and Grabouw area from about 4 am until 11 am. As a result, there could be heavy downpours resulting in flash and localised flooding that could affect homes and roads.
“Residents are advised to please factor extra time into their travel plans tomorrow morning in the event of roads being affected by the anticipated downpours.”
