Sony hosts a world photography competition every year, it’s the most popular photography competition in the world. It hosts professionals, youth, students and open divisions.
The competition has four divisions that a person can submit their work to, Professional, Student Focus, Youth and Open. Within those four divisions there are various categories such as Nature, Wildlife, Portrait and many more. Photographers from all over the world were welcome to submit their work.
Africa as a whole was beautifully featured throughout the competition by photographers from all over the world. Obviously our wildlife was a massive hit with the judges and many photographers made the shortlist.
Andreas Hemb from Sweden submitted this photo to the Open competition under the Wildlife category.
Mike Fell from South Africa was commended for submitting this photograph to the Open Competition in the Wildlife category.
From the professional competition Will Burrard-Lucas from the UK ventured into Africa to photograph African Wildlife at night.
“African Wildlife at Night My aim was to capture never-before-seen images of African wildlife at night and to show nocturnal animals such as lions and hyenas in their true element. The techniques I employed were only made possible by the low-light ability of modern-day digital cameras and by using remote-control devices such as my “BeetleCam”. BeetleCam is a remote-control buggy for my camera, which I created to take close-up ground-level photographs of African wildlife. All of these images were taken in Liuwa Plain National Park, a remote area in the West of Zambia. These images were shot over the course of two trips in 2015 and first published in print and online in 2016.”
The competition submissions for 2018 open on the 1st of June 2017.
