Ingrid Altmann is giving thrifted paintings a new lease and purpose by turning them into clever conversation pieces; she is hosting her first-ever exhibition to showcase these works.

Noordhoek, South Africa (05 October 2022) – Time for some fun – a local Noordhoek artist has put a new spin and life on old unwanted paintings by adding in comical cartoon characters to the paintings.

Ingrid Altmann is having her first exhibition at Noordhoek Art Point Gallery, along Noordhoek Main Road, for the month of October of these fabulous, quirky pieces, that are guaranteed to bring a smile to your face!

After 20 years in the PR industry, Ingrid decided that it was time for a change and to look at new avenues to branch into. Having always loved her art and painting, she was drawn to some concepts she had seen online, that sparked ideas for a new collection.

“I have always been passionate about recycling and upcycling items to give them a new lease on life,” says Ingrid. “I came up with the idea of adding comical characters to older pieces of artwork that I found in 2nd hand stores, particularly characters from my childhood, and that is how “This old Painting” began!”

Ingrid began frequenting 2nd hand and thrift stores all over the Western Cape, looking for art treasures and then adding her unique spin to add a new dynamic to the piece.

“It has become a bit like a treasure hunt for me, searching around these stores looking for suitable art works that would work with cartoon characters has been so much fun,” explains Altmann. “I love adding characters from my childhood into these paintings as they make me laugh and they breathe life into old unwanted paintings.”

Ingrid’s first exhibition is being held at the Noordhoek Art Point along Noordhoek Main Rd (behind the Smartie Wall) showcasing her first 15 paintings.

You either love this type of work or hate it, she says – why not come see for yourself!
