Unplug Yourself, a gaming enthusiasts page, got a massive donation and used it to bring joy to children living in children’s homes, dropping off board game donations.

Cape Town, South Africa (12 May 2020) – Philip Galliford from Unplug Yourself has asked shared some happy news about children living in lockdown, at children’s homes.

It is in the spirit of seeing people reconnecting through play and staying entertained during lockdown, that Unplug Yourself has secured and donated over R 200,000 worth of board games and toys to those less fortunate. This donation of board games and toys will benefit over 30 children’s homes in the City of Cape Town, from Athlone to Khayelitsha. This donation will be distributed to the recipients in partnership with Disaster Management and the City of Cape Town.

Alderman JP Smith was at Leliebloem House – Child & Youth Centre to do the honours in distributing the first of the games and toys to help bring some joy and edutainment to the lives of young people during the lockdown.

Unplug Yourself’s #PlayAtHome campaign is a social movement established in response to the coronavirus lockdown currently experienced in South Africa. The campaign aims to share the joys of play with South Africans from all walks of life, who are looking for ways to stay entertained during social distancing and lockdown. It is their firm belief that board games and all their benefits will create fond memories; memories which will long outlast the difficulties faced during the lockdown.

Unplug Yourself would like to urge all South Africans under lockdown to join the #PlayAtHome Facebook Group and to show them what games you are playing during the lockdown.
