This Cape Town taxi driver has reminded us all to hit the brakes for what truly matters. His heroic act for a family of ducks has Mzansi melting!
Cape Town, South Africa (19 February 2026) – Taxi drivers may have a controversial reputation in South Africa, our land, but the video we just discovered has earned them much love across the internet.
In a video shared by Marianna Licht on Instagram, a taxi driver is seen hopping out of his stationary vehicle at a traffic light intersection in Cape Town and heading towards a mother duck and her many ducklings attempting to cross the road.
He carefully watches over traffic as the little birdies waddle from one point to another. Another stranger takes over from him as the traffic light turns green, also watching over the determined duck family.
Though the short clip ends before we can see how far they went, the moment was all kinds of cute and heartwarming!

The taxi industry may be a polarising topic in SA. However, a moment like this creates a “common ground” that transcends our daily complaints. It’s hard to stay negative when you see a man hopping out of a Quantum to play bodyguard for a family of birds. It also just goes to show that empathy really does exist in every corner of our country.
