cycling dog

Gerhardt Jooste has seen Vlekkie and Johan Fourie cycling every day so he stopped them to get the story, turns out, Vlekkie is a cycling loving dog!

Every day, Gerhardt sees Vlekkie the poodle and Johan Fourie cycle past. He has been fascinated by the dog sitting on the shoulder of his owner and decided to stop them to find out how it all started.

According to Gerhardt, Vlekkie used to run behind Johan when he set off in the morning so he would turn around and take Vlekkie back home. Eventually, he would put Vlekkie on his shoulder and ride him back home.

From that day on, Vlekkie just wanted to be up on Johan’s shoulder.

So, Johan got a special little bag made for Vlekkie to put his feet in and glasses to protect his eyes. They cycle between 16kms and 32kms each day.

Vlekkie will not even think about staying home, she is determined to join her dad on the bike.

Johan Fourie… They usually say a dog is a mans best friend, but you sir, are definitely your dogs best friend and I wish for all dogs to have such a friend, not an owner but a friend!” – Hendrik Nieuwenhuys

That’s great. I’ve seen them together on numerous occasions cycling around Curro Durbanville area. I had wondered what had happened to them, as I hadn’t seen them in quite a while now.” – Annette Woodrow Larsen

So precious. My daughter is always so excited to see you both! Keep safe and we hope to see many more posts of your journeys together. Thank you for sharing.” – Landi Hertog Tuit

People have said that the cute pair brings smiles to their faces every morning. Many have shared photos they have taken of the happy dog. There is nothing cuter than seeing a happy dog, doing something adventurous.
