Dance Star

The DanceStar World Championship has ended and our South African team is home safe, among them is the World Junior Champion in Urban Style dance.

Over the last few months we have been reporting on the DanceStar World Finals in Croatia. 400 South African’s went to represent South Africa and one of them came back a world champion!

Aiden Kaylor along with 10 other dancers from the Jodie Jackson Dance Centre in Cape Town worked hard to raise the funds needed to get them oversea’s and to the finals. Little did they know that one of them would come back a junior world champion!

He danced in the finals on Saturday, 27 May 2017, and was award 1st place on Sunday. This makes him the World Junior Champion for 2017.

As parents, we are very proud of this achievement and can proudly say that we have world class champion in Grassy Park – Cape Town.

Aiden didn’t want to be predictable so he decided against traditional commercial hip hop music and obviously it worked! That and his talent for dance secured him the title.

He was confident that he did his best, but was not sure if that was enough. He could not believe that his name was called for 1st place. It was only when his dance teacher, Jodie, pushed him to receive his prize. I suspect he was in shock.

He is extremely excited but also humble to have the opportunity and to be selected by the judges – Derrick Kaylor, Father of Aiden
