Delft’s Community Cadets bring hope to the people with their music and dedication towards their community.

Cape Town, South Africa (28 June 2021) – Music has always been an integral part of society. Some say music is life itself. As proof of this statement, young cadets from the Delft’s community with an intense passion for music are bringing liveliness to any situation around them through their musical performances.

Started by the community members to give the children with no supportive background a purpose to live and keep them off the streets, the ‘Delft’s Community Cadet’ was formed in 2009 and has been running successfully ever since. From festivals to funerals, these young kids ranging from eight to nineteen years old participate and spread their music’s alacrity and dignified somberness to the people, respectively.

“To see the children taking part in the routines is just awe-inspiring because they help each other out while performing for the community and no matter the weather or the time, they give their all for the community”, Gerard Willemse, a board member of the DCC said to the Daily Voice.

After the Delft Generation Cadets, another drum team, formed before the DCC had dissolved, the newly elected board members decided to bring back this initiative for the greater good of helping the kids.

The children’s passion and dedication towards the team had left many people awe-struck. Despite the harsh situations they face at their home, the kids continue to smile with hope every day for their community and each other.

“Don’t give up before the miracle happens”- Fannie Flagg.

These children are an example of this quote. Through the adversities and obstacles, they continue to fight their way through, hoping for a better future.

The lockdown has reduced their opportunities to perform, a common problem of many performers in the current situation.

Though this is a hard blow to them, these kids still practice with the same zeal and hope to continue their performance when the situation becomes safer.

Amidst the tough times of the Covid pandemic, the story of these children is bringing a sense of hope and humanity to many people.
