Who knew that an Elephant could help a Lioness by carrying her cub in it’s trunk?

A South African Facebook page has gone viral with a photo of an incredibly rare animal sighting… so rare that it was only seen on April Fools day.

Latest Sightings – Kruger posted the photo on the 1 April 2018 which quickly racked up over 30 000 shares.

“We were following a lioness carrying her cub for around 2kms when we could see she was getting really tired. Suddenly, an elephant showed up and looked as if it was wanting to help the tired lioness! The elephant put its trunk down, the cub jumped up and the elephant started carrying the lion cub!! I never ever knew this was possible!

They are still there for anyone in the area!”

Fortunately for our entertainment, many did not realise that it was a photoshopped image created specifically for April Fools Day.

Judy Roodt posted: “Nature is wonderful. They can teach humans a lot. They make me ashamed of the way some humans behave.”

Caillin M Bartolucci said: “Whats wrong with you people(not all) I think the foto is beautiful… Elephants dont eat meat! they are caring, Seems to me the world has lost its heart. I dont even care if its a foto shop.( I dont think it is) The concept is wonderful.”

Chantelle Van Der Merwe commented: “Hey!! Who gives anybody the right to dismiss this post like a joke just because of a date. Animals don’t know what year or date it is. And maybe many of you can learn from an animal instead of being nasty about what it means to be kind”

Olivia Hossell added: “This is unusual but nature never stop to surprise us”

Thys Boeyens said: “Obviously the elephant knew were the lion was heading. As it was not out of her way to much she helped. However elephants are known only to help it is sort of conveniet for them. Otherwise they wont help.”

While others saw the humour in the April Fools post and pointed out how funny it was.

Ted Hughes posted: “These amazing sightings occur on 1st April each year!!”

Cecil James Currie commented: “The tragic end to this was the Elephant sneezing.the Cub was found 18 kilometers away.”

Glenn Meyer added: “I saw it… then the elephant, cradling the cub, with the lioness in tow, climbed onto the back of a large crocodile and glided down the Crocodile River humming Awimha we’ awimha we’… honest!”

Hendrik Erasmus said: “Ja, that’s the same elephant that pushed our car back to the camp when we ran out of petrol. I gave it a R10 tip ….”

Becca Hine added: “I don’t know what is funnier… the quality of the photoshop… or that some people believe this is true on April 1st.”

Did someone catch you out this April Fools?
