Inspired by Pharell Williams’ music video for the hit song Happy, local filmmakers decided to make a Cape Town version, featuring destinations from all over the beautiful mother city!

Inspired by Pharrell Williams but created right here in South Africa. The “happy in Cape Town” video may be 4 years old, but it is still making everyone that sees it… happy!

“Happy” is a song written, produced, and performed by American singer Pharrell Williams, from the Despicable Me 2 soundtrack album. It also served as the lead single from Williams’ second studio album, Girl (2014). It was first released on November 21, 2013, alongside a long-form music video.

The original video spawned many cover videos on YouTube in which people from different cities throughout the world dance to the same song. As of May 2014, more than 1900 videos from 153 countries have been created but Cape Town is obviously the best one because we’re terribly bias 🙂

The next year, the Grammy winner partnered with the United Nations — which declared March 20, the second annual International Day of Happiness — to encourage people around the world to share videos of themselves dancing to “Happy.”

Pharrell sorted through the submissions, all tagged with the hashtag #HAPPYDAY, and shared them on his website, 24 Hours of Happiness.

At noon in each time zone, he highlighted the best submissions from that city… and this video from Cape Town was featured!
