If you can’t find a Time Machine, you can always cruise back to the past with a little music. We can’t believe these songs turn 10 this year (because 10 years ago feels like it should still be the 90s) but here we are. Now let’s take you back to 2014!
Global (14 January 2024) — Cast your minds back in time. The year is 2014. Skinny jeans rule the world. Instagram is still for posting photos of your highly filtered breakfast, and the Disney film Frozen ruled the world (and every parent’s nightmares).
Ipad kids were only just getting started, and if you weren’t dreaming about attending Tomorrowland, what were you doing?
It seems like another lifetime—one we’re not entirely sure can be referred to as a simpler time (the 2010s were filled with new discoveries). But, it was a priceless part of history, the coming-of-age era for many millennials and a time most of us can look back on fondly with equal doses of cringe and nostalgia.
If you’ve caught yourself longing for the early 2010s lately, there’s one very simple way to time travel back. Zero time machines required! Blasting the beats of the past has always had a profound effect on putting us back in a different space and time, and so we’re throwing it back to 2014 by celebrating 10 iconic mainstream songs turning 10 in 2024:
1. Happy — Pharrell Williams
2. All of Me — John Legend
3. Shake it Off — Taylor Swift
4. Summer — Calvin Harris
5. A Sky Full of Stars — Coldplay
6. Runaway (U & I) — Galantis
7. Rather Be — Clean Bandit
8. Chandelier — SIA
9. Drunk in Love — Beyonce and Jay-Z
10. Fancy — Iggy Azalea ft Charli XCX
