The Kiffness is going viral with his remix of Bheki Cele and his “shut up” comment.
Western Cape, South Africa (07 July 2022) – While South Africans call for the Minister of Police to step down, The Kiffness has taken the Bheki Cele “shut up” comment directed at Ian Cameron… and turned it into a song which is going viral!
Crime in South Africa is out of control. Apparently, a South African woman faces GBV every 26 seconds. Hijackings are up by 19,7%. We now have 33 kidnappings and 67 murders every single day. There are even reports that some of our police officers lock themselves inside the police stations at night to keep safe.
Ian Cameron, the voice of Civil rights lobby group Action Society took on Cele when the minister failed to answer questions about his inability to fulfil his constitutional mandate to protect South Africans against crime. Survivors and families of victims of gender-based violence mandated Action Society to speak on their behalf during the meeting.
“I want to graciously invite you to come patrol without a bodyguard, without a grand car, in normal clothes with this community tonight… to get the sewerage on your shoes that they patrol through. The problem, Mister Minister, is that you are removed from the reality that South Africans face.”
Cele responded he had “not joined the fight for human rights yesterday” and after telling him to “shut up”, had Cameron forcibly removed from the meeting.
The videos of the heated exchange have been trending online with many calling on Cele to step down, which inspired The Kiffness to create a song called #CeleMustGo.
David Scott from The Kiffness made a global name for himself during the pandemic using ‘sound samples’ from cats to goats and even chicken nuggets to create songs that have gone viral. And now he’s throwing his weight behind Cele’s “shut up” comment.

Since then, Cameron says he will be laying four charges and complaints against the Police Minister and his security team. Cameron says the minister is playing dirty politics and is diverting from the real issues communities are facing.
He further explained that the minister is “once again abusing the police force for political gain and holding authority over ordinary citizens.”
“I believe there is a time and place for everything but what the minister failed to do was focus on the issues at hand. He also accused me of racism. I spent my day in Gugulethu, why on earth would someone who is racist do that,” questioned Cameron.
