South Africans have a resilience when it comes to the hard stuff, in a world where life is always giving lemons, we have found many good ways to use them.
South Africa (11 March 2020) – It is no surprise that one week after the announcement of Covid-19 in South Africa, comedians and South Africans alike, are using their humour to work through the stress.
It is a South African trait to laugh rather than cry, it seems to be the kind that runs through every person and helps us cope when we have no other options. Time and time again, we have shared moments of anguish by laughing a little.
Every political faux-pas, every time Eskom has left us in the dark and every time Nandos has spoken out, we have laughed. Sometimes it is the only thing we can do!
Yesterday, comedian Themba-Robin, shared a video with us about the Covid-19 outbreak that had us in fits of laughter. While the virus is serious, we have to see the light where we can and Themba-Robin got it right!
We have seen a few memes circulating social media and WhatsApp so we know the mood surrounding the virus is being dealt with in a typical South African manor. While we laugh, we are aware of the severity and hope that the current cases, are the only cases we deal with.
As always, remember to be respectful of others. Wash your hands, sneeze and cough into your elbow and take general precautions to keep your own health up. Also, avoid panic buying. We have no reason to panic.
If you had a good laugh, pass this along to lighten the mood and change the way we see the virus. We are better when we are laughing together!
This is how to survive Covid-19 in South Africa according to Themba-Robin.
