Lucas the Spider has been turned into a teddy & profits are going to charity

Lucas the Spider

Lucas the Spider has won the hearts of millions of people across the globe. The cute spider started out as a test and has become a firm favourite on the internet.

In November last year, we introduced you to the adorable baby spider, Lucas. He was just trying to make friends with humans and has since learned he is a little different from us.

Talented animator Joshua Slice was working on a small project, he created a test character called Lucas the Spider. The original animated clip was only 20 seconds long but instantly won over the hearts of millions of people.

The baby spider scurried into focus and had a brief conversation before spotting his web and scurrying off again. The animation is voiced by Joshua’s nephew also named Lucas.

Joshua had recruited his nephew to be the voice of the spider and it was a massive success. Since the first clip, Joshua has had over 2 million people subscribe to his channel since November.

As a way to raise some funds, Joshua decided to develop a limited edition Lucas the Spider plush toy. The toy talks and is equally as cute as the animation. In the last 10 days, he has pre-sold over 40000 units, getting closer to their projected total of more than $1,2 million.

It has since been confirmed that most of the funds will be going into a college fund for Lucas and the rest to charities that support people with legal costs to get away from domestic abuse.

“Lucas the Spider started as a curiosity for whether spiders could, in fact, be cute. To bring Lucas to life by way of a soft lovable plushie that contains the voice of Lucas has been an exciting part of a very unexpected journey. We’re very thankful that so many people could come together over the unexpected love for a spider. The fact that Lucas can also provide a future for my nephew, the original Lucas, as well as charities we support is really rewarding.” Joshua Slice
