Margaret Coetzer recently won £1 million from Heart, a London-based radio station; what makes the win even more special, is that it happened on her 40th birthday.

United Kingdom, South Africa (28 April 2023) – Imagine winning a massive sum of money on your birthday. For Margaret Coetzer, that became a reality as she won £1 million this morning, which also happens to be her 40th. The competition was being hosted by Heart, a radio station in the UK. The number 2 will forever be her lucky number now!

Margaret Coetzer and her husband AJ currently live in Bracknell in Berkshire, United Kingdom but they are both originally from South Africa. We absolutely love when good things happen and even more so when they happen to fellow South Africans.

Heart’s “Make Me A Millionaire” competition has been running for a few years now. Listeners enter and get the chance to select a lucky box that could contain a sum of money with the ultimate prize being the million. Hosts Jamie Theakston and Amanda Holden along with ten finalists, hoped the money would be won. Since the start of the annual competition, a total of four people have become millionaires.

When it came to Margaret’s turn she took a chance. She was offered a guaranteed £2,000 in February but chose to risk it and rather enter the final. Her name went into a draw and Amanda Holden was tasked with selecting the nine finalists by catching the entry numbers that were blowing around in a tube. Margaret’s number was 18.

Each contestant would get the chance to select a number which correlated with a locked box. When it came to her turn to select a box, she felt that the number 2 would be the one. Why? Because someone who had helped her backstage had two gorgeous eyes.

As she opened the box, it had the winning phrase “Make Me A Millionaire” inside, thus signalling her win. She was overcome with excitement and it took her a few moments to realise the win had happened on her 40th birthday.

When asked what she plans to do with the money, buying a house and a horse for her daughter were at the top of the list. She and her husband AJ also plan to give to animal welfare charities and fly to South Africa to visit family here.

Take a look at her winning moment below.
