The Sea Shanty is the musical trend of 2021 that we (and the world) are loving at the moment; it all started when Nathan Evans sang “The Wellerman” on TikTok.

Global (02 February 2021) – 2020 embraced music in a way that united the world. Social media became the place where people found joy through music and musical challenges. We need only mention the word Jerusalema for you to understand what we mean.

The South African song became the music trend of 2020 and included dancing and a whole bunch of unity. Now there is a new music trend spreading around the world, and it will give you goosebumps!

It is the Sea Shanty. A sea shanty is a type of traditional folk song that was once commonly sung as a work song to accompany rhythmical labour on board large merchant sailing vessels.

The reason everyone is talking about sea shanties and making their own all started because of Nathan Evans who shared “The Wellerman” Sea Shanty on TikTok. The 26-year-old former postman shared the beautiful shanty on social media and people quickly joined in. Even local artist, the Kiffness joined in on Evans’ sea shanty. Take a look below.

Evans has since gone on to sign a record deal and gave up his job as a postman. While his future has been changed by posting a song on social media, it has inspired the new musical trend.

People are now taking some of their favourite songs and turning them into sea shanties. Evans then did the “Drunken Sailor” sea shanty and that too was embraced by fellow sea shanty fans.
