As we get older, memory tends to fade but sadly for many of our beloved grandparents, memories disappear – This short film honours that process.
Global (10 December 2021) – An award-winning short film, Napo, is making waves globally for honouring family, support and memory loss. The film was created in memory of a beloved grandfather, Daniel Manoel da Costa, who spent 84 years on this planet. While his memory may have faded, his memories will live on in this beautiful film.
Families worldwide are connecting with the short film because so many experience bringing a parent or grandparent into their home to care for them once their memory declines.
With diseases such as Alzheimer’s and Dementia to prevalent in society and the cost of care so high, families often opt to care for their loved ones at home. This transition is always a difficult one as everyone settles into a routine.
Often the routine will bring about a closeness that reconnects the family, but it also brings many challenges and heartaches. Nearly every family can attest to this in some way. This is what Napo shares.
“John, unable to understand the illness that drives his grandfather between past and present states, stumbles into an old album full of photographs and then let the images guide his imagination, transforming his grandpa’s memories into drawing interpretations. Drawings that shape their relationship into a history of remembrance and memory building.”
The film was created in Brazil and released in 2020. It has been shared by the production company, Miralumo on YouTube.
