Check out nearly 60 years of summer songs, from “Papa Don’t Preach” to “Macarena” to “I Gotta Feeling” to “One Dance.”
Global (29 August 2017) – Every summer has one. That inescapable hit you can’t get away from. You hear it at every wedding and braai, and even in the grocery store. And now you can listen to them all.
Using Billboard’s official rankings, Metro Lyrics took every song of the summer since 1958 and made one giant mega-mix.
‘Despacito’ by Daddy Yankee and Luis Fonsi is officially the Song of the Summer for 2017. Last year it was ‘One Dance’ by Drake, and in 2015 it was ‘Cheerleader’ by OMI. Do you remember which song was a summer hit, let’s say, 10 years ago?
Well, this compilation has almost 60 of the best summer hits.
That is a lot of songs. And I’ll bet that a lot of you, myself included, started to get a little lost when they started dipping into the 1980’s. The songs of the summer have changed so rapidly since the late 1950s that it’s hard to imagine how we got here from that point.
The seemingly innocent songs of back then have given way to some of the most racy and over-the-top performances we’ve ever seen, and people absolutely love it.
Of course what’s not to love? Every generation has had its favourite songs, and those that we have now are, without a doubt, just as enjoyable as any from back in the day.
This is Every “Song of the Summer” Single Since 1958.
