A South African has garnered over 1 million likes on his Spider-Man tweet!

Soweto, South Africa (26 August 2021) – With cake power, comes cake responsibility! Kabelo Mohlahli Boshielo from Soweto has gone viral for posting a Spider-Man meme on Twitter.

On Tuesday, Boshielo posted a meme of a damaged Spider-Man-themed cake with the caption ‘Thank you Spiderman for saving my son’s cake’. The meme has been liked over a million times since it was posted. Local and international Twitter users have joined in the fun by engaging with Boshielo’s meme.

The viral tweet was spurred by the release of the new Spider-Man movie trailer.

Speaking on the inspiration of the meme, Boshielo said he took it from Facebook.

“I just got the picture on Facebook,” he says.

Realizing that the picture had no caption, Boshielo thought of attaching a humorous caption.

“Looking at the picture, I just thought Spider-Man is a hero. He’s saving the cake from falling.”

That’s perhaps the irony of Boshielo’s meme. The cake is damaged, even though Spider-Man is standing on top of it. Apart from it not having a caption, Boshielo says the original picture appealed to him because of its beauty.

“The picture looks amazing,’ he said. “I was attracted to it. The person who created it is creative.”

Since he liked the picture, he thought his social media followers would like it, but not in his wildest dreams did he think it would receive over a million likes.

“I liked the picture first, and I decided to share it,” he says. “I believed people would like it, but I never thought it would trend. I never thought it would go viral.”

Boshielo said he was overwhelmed by the reaction he was getting from Twitter users, ‘Black’ Twitter especially.

“I am overwhelmed. I’m seeing how people are celebrating my tweet. I feel the love from Black Twitter for appreciating me.”

But this is not the first time Boshielo has gone viral. In May, he trended after going on a date with Brown Mbombo, a famous socialite. Twitter users have sent congratulations messages to Boshielo on his milestone. Originally from Limpopo, Boshielo says he relocated to Soweto for work reasons. Boshielo’s Twitter display name is MZulu wa Limpopo.
