The Stellenbosch University Choir gave passengers on their flight a stunning performance of Weeping by Bright Blue and the moment gave us goosebumps.

South Africa (23 August 2022) – Corlie van Aswegen caught a beautiful moment on camera during her flight on the 22nd of August 2022. The Stellenbosch University Choir was onboard and gave the flight a show with their rendition of Bright Blue’s “Weeping”.

The Stellenbosch University Choir was founded in 1936 under the baton of William Morris. After him, various conductors established the ensemble as an influential South African choir.

The choir, an ensemble of approximately 80 – 100 voices, has won international acclaim through performances, concert tours, and participation in prestigious festivals and competitions. And only a few of the students in the group actually study music!

The University choir is one of the most celebrated in South Africa, with various awards from around the world.

Weeping was written as a protest song by Bright Blue’s keyboard-player Dan Heymann. The song came out towards the end of Apartheid and was voted as the “All-time Favourite South African Song” in 1999.

It has been famously covered by Josh Groben in 2006 with the help of Ladysmith Black Mambazo.
