After every match, the DHL Stormers sing the late Johnny Clegg’s “The Crossing”, they recently released a beautiful rendition of the song for all to enjoy.
Cape Town, South Africa (14 April 2020) – The DHL Stormers teamed up with some of South Africa’s top artists just before the lockdown kicked in. They teamed up to record South African icon Johnny Clegg’s ‘The Crossing’.
The team sings the song in the changeroom after every match. They have done so the entire past season. The guys decided to up their game and joined a team of professional singers, some of South Africa’s very best, to perform the song for the world.
They went to a recording studio, pushing the guys beyond their comfort zones, and recorded the song. The team also filmed a music video to go along with the music. It was released after the lockdown and is now being used to inspire South Africans.
This isn’t the first time a group have come together to sing “The Crossing”, take a look at the previous collaboration here.
“Music and singing are integral to team spirit, so necessary in rugby – choosing to learn the song of an iconic South African, taking our players out their comfort zones and encouraging them to celebrate our diversity through music has been incredibly powerful.
Stay safe, South Africa, stay home.
Together, we will beat this coronavirus pandemic” – John Dobson, Head Coach, DHL Stormers.
