A proudly South African moment has happened all the way in Miami as Melusi Mhlungu wrote a viral advert for the Super Bowl.
Miami, United States – South African Melusi Mhlungu is following his dream in Advertising over in the US and has just achieved an incredible thing. He wrote a brilliant advert that has gone viral. The advert was for the ‘Super Bowl’ which is one of the biggest sporting events in the US.
Every year people wait in anticipation for the famous halftime show and all the adverts that feature throughout the game. That is why having a South African write an advert that has gone viral is something to really be proud of.
He joined the Miami-based David agency in 2017 and has already shot to success. In an interview with the Business Insider SA he confirmed that writing the Kraft-Heinz’s Super Bowl commercial for their Devour frozen food range was “a dream brief.”
“At first I never thought it was possible (because of self-doubt), but when it was actually close to becoming a reality I got nervous.”
The advert has already reached over 8-million views on YouTube. He always dreamed of a career in advertising and it all started when he was young. His aunt worked for an agency and he used to pitch her his ideas. While in South Africa he worked on campaigns for Old Mutual, KFC, Coke, Toyota and Vodacom. He even won the Adams & Adams Young Creatives Award at the Loeries in 2015.
The advert is filled with hilarious innuendo. We are so excited to see a fellow South African succeeding at their dream. Great job, Melusi!
