All good teachers will know that it’s pretty important for students to have a good balance between work and play – but few have been as heroic as this teacher in implementing it.
With the emphasis on exams and results higher than ever, it’s nice to see one teacher encouraging her class to just be kids. In a note to ‘Class J3’ that was posted on Facebook, Mrs Thom tells her students to not worry about upcoming exams, and seemingly tells them to focus on doing all the fun things that are at the centre of an 11-year-old’s world.
To help calm the children’s nerves, Thom — who’s been widely praised for her approach to the exams — did allow a little bit of study time.
“If you feel you have to, you may revise, BUT you can only do this for a maximum of one hour total,” she wrote, adding, “Mrs Thom is in charge of worrying — you don’t need to.”
This is so great, and is absolutely what an 11-year old needs in order to focus on exams, a bit of time to play in the sun, ride their bikes or ‘laugh until their tummy hurts’.
