With over 57,000 views on their video, it is safe to say that these incredible teachers are bringing cheer to the hearts of South Africans; all in an effort to bid farewell to one of their own.
Bedfordview, South Africa (08 August 2023) – The teaching staff at St Andrew’s School for Girls bid farewell to one of their own, Mrs Venter-Murray, who is setting her sights on opportunities overseas. To honour her time at the school and to give her the send-off she deserved, the staff put on a performance that left the school in awe, Mrs Venter-Murray deeply moved and the South African population with a feel-good video to brighten the day.
Teachers Terry Bulloch, Kholu Mtsweni, Priscilla Reddy, Catherine Warrender, Trevor Whittle (bumblebee), Jo-Andri Pretorius, Susan Marais, Zinhle Ncongwane, and Nompilo Ngubane, took to the stage. The best part of all is many of these brilliant teachers might tell you they have two left feet, but it didn’t stop them from pirouetting and prancing across the stage!
“None of them have any dancing experience – they all just braved the stage for a farewell tribute to their colleague, Gail Venter-Murray – knowing it would make her giggle! The students roared with laughter and excitement – which was such an awesome added bonus to reward their courage.” – Caterina Cannone, Head of Marketing and Admissions at St Andrew’s School for Girls
The choreographer for the now almost viral performance was Mrs Terry Bulloch who spends her days teaching English at St Andrew’s Senior School. Not to be confused with Pretoria High’s viral teacher Mrs Bullock, Mrs Terry Bulloch rallied the teachers between term-end marking and report comments to spend a few tea time moments to learn what they could for the performance.
“The group of teachers wanted to surprise their dear colleague and friend, Gail Venter-Murray, who has been at St Andrew’s for the past six years as a History teacher and Deputy Head of the Senior School. She is emigrating to UK with her family in August, and although we will all miss them dearly, we wish them “only good things”!
Take a look at the wonderful video below. We adore how much the school pupils enjoyed the performance too!
