“The ANC Exhibition” is a satirical comedy sketch by Bouwer Bosch and Themba Robin that humorously critiques South African socio-political issues while encouraging voter engagement ahead of the elections.
Johannesburg, South Africa (19 May 2024) – South African comedians Bouwer Bosch and Themba Robin have created a comedic masterpiece with their latest sketch, “The ANC Exhibition”.
The video, which is quickly gaining traction around the country, brings a light-hearted and insightful perspective to the political and social landscape of South Africa, despite its roots in the nation’s hardships.
In this sketch, Bosch and Robin portray Karl Niehausen and Luci MuniMuni, playful nods to the political figures Carl Niehaus and Mmusi Maimane. The characters embark on a whimsical journey to explore the “ANC – Art Never Corrupts” Exhibition, a satirical gallery that features the trials and tribulations faced by South Africans. The exhibition tour showcases a series of hilarious yet poignant displays, such as “Urban Decay—Unfilled Potholes and Unfilled Promises,” “No Water, No Problem,” and “Majestic Negligence—a Depiction of Law and Disorder” to name a few.
Audience reactions have been overwhelmingly positive, with comments like, “Okes, flippen funny thanks,” and “Brilliant! The Hadidas made me laugh out loud!” The reference to loadshedding also hit home, with one viewer remarking, “That loadshedding reference. LOL.”
Beyond its comedic brilliance, “The ANC Exhibition” serves a dual purpose. It is a reminder of the resilience and humour that characterise the South African spirit, showing how laughter can be a powerful tool in the face of adversity. But more importantly, as the country heads towards the elections on 29 May 2024, the sketch highlights the challenges that we face and the importance of civic engagement and voting.
