The Mzansi Youth Choir (who got the coveted golden buzzer from the America’s Got Talent judges last year and have brought our nation so much joy through song) are holding auditions for new voices!

Soweto, South Africa (10 January 2024) — It’s no secret that we (along with many, many other South Africans, and the America’s Got Talent judges) are unapologetically big fans of the Mzansi Youth Choir.

With all the joy, tears and moments of inspiration this cohort of voices straight fresh from the heavens have brought to and from our nation, how could we all not be megafans?

Take their emotional America’s Got Talent Tribute of Nightbirde’s ‘It’s Ok’—the one that even brought Simon Cowell to tears and won them a coveted Golden Buzzer. Or, their Fleetwood Mac rendition that washed the hit ‘Everywhere’ with new warmth. When it comes to the Soweto-based choir, it seems that nearly any song they touch turns to gold.

So, it’s pretty big news in the South African music scene that the Choir are ready to take in brand new voices! Auditions are just around the corner, and there are only two requirements that anyone who thinks they’ve got the voice it takes to join needs to be aware of:

Requirements

  • To apply, you need to live in Soweto (for logistic reasons)
  • Age range needs to be between 18 and 22 years old

How to Apply

Send a WhatsApp message to 067 077 0957 with:

  • Your name
  • Where in Soweto you live
  • Your age
  • Your voice group (tenor, soprano, alto, bass)

Auditions are taking place for one day only, on Friday, 12 January at the Morris Isaacson Centre of Music.  The last call time for auditions is 2 pm.

Even if you aren’t a songbird, spread the word and potentially someone’s gift of song and share the details with someone you think would be the perfect fit.
