In “Red Bull Can You Make It”, 165 student teams from 50+ countries across the globe will have seven days to travel across Europe using only cans of Red Bull as currency. It is a journey of adventure, charm and strategy. Meet Team SA – known as Citizens of the Cape.

Citizens of the Cape is made up of three passionate and enthusiastic students. Growing up in untamed Africa ignited their spark for adventure at an early age. They are all desperate to experience everything our beautiful planet has to offer and they believe this is the perfect opportunity for that.

Nineteen years old, Durban girl. Whose been waiting for this journey her whole life. Unlike Marlin I have a map and I’m not looking for Nemo, I’m looking for adventure. Like Dory once said “Just keep swimming [to the next check point]”.

Born and bred in Jozi but have been living in Cape Town since I was 18 months old. I’m a 21-year-old editing major at City Varsity who loves to explore and be pushed outside of my comfort zone. Which is why I can’t wait for this trip.

I grew up in the warm, coastal town of Durban where I attemped to eat bunny chows and fell in love with the ocean. After matriculating from Kearsney college in 2014, I traded my boardies for a wetsuit and moved to Cape Town to study at UCT.

HOW DO THEY FEEL ABOUT IT ALL?

Very excited. Stressed, nervous, it’s coming so fast now. (They depart Sunday 10 April).

There is so much you can know about Europe, but we simply don’t have the time, so we are just going in completely blind.

We don’t have a game plan or a strategy. We don’t know the check points we only hear them the night at the hotel, so we have to plan from there. We can’t plan a route. We’ve looked at possible ways to go, but there are so many options.

The pressure is on because it’s the first time there are South Africans in the race. We are the underdogs.
