In the new Argos Christmas advert (that anyone who has ever wanted to be a rockstar will love), Trevor the toy T-Rex lets us in on what a toy T-Rex dreams of doing with their life. The short and sweet story reminds us not only of the power of thoughtful gifts but the power of imagination.

Global (09 December 2024) — Trevor the Toy T-Rex and doll Connie made a comeback for this year’s Argos Christmas advert, much to the joy of fans.

In this year’s advert, we get a little insight into what a toy T-Rex dreams about doing with their life, as Trevor lets us in on his wildest imaginings.

If you thought a toy T-rex would only be interested in terrifying other dinosaurs, you’d be wrong. Trev has plans to make crowds of Connie dolls dance as he blazes on his electric guitar; loving every minute of it.

Cleverly, the song he plays in his daydream is a rendition of 20th Century Boy (20th century toy) by T.Rex.

But, before he can get to crowd-surfing or winning a Grammy, he’s woken up by a surprise from Connie. Sweetly, it’s his very own amp and his ticket to making his rockstar dream a reality.

While the ad itself is light-hearted and equal parts short and sweet, we love that it put thoughtfulness and 20th-century toys in the spotlight.

With so many tech gizmos and gadgets to choose from for the little ones in our lives, there’s something to be said about the pure magic of imagination that simpler toys encourage. By the advert’s standards, even the toys themselves have room to imagine and dream.

The ‘iPad’ generation might have a ridiculous amount of access to entertainment and digital games, but we can’t help but wonder where imagination comes into play in the midst of it all.

Trev might dream of being a rockstar, but we think he also dreams of a world where more kids make him their favourite toy again.
