In his latest skit, Troy Shepherds compares the gym routines of Cape Town’s soft life to the chaotic survival workouts of Joburg residents

South Africa (27 July 2025) – If you have ever wondered what gym life looks like in Cape Town versus Johannesburg, content creator Troy Shepherds has just the skit for you. Known for his comedic takes on the Joburg vs Cape Town lifestyle, Troy returns with yet another video, this time comparing how the two cities “get fit” or at least try to.

The video kicks off with the nice and serene Cape Town voice: calm, composed, and wildly luxurious. From 4:30 AM runs “to catch the sun,” cycling through scenic routes, and pilates classes to post yoga dips in the ocean, the Mother City sounds like a wellness retreat. Just fresh air and flowy athleisure.

And then, cut to Joburg.

Troy flips the tone as the Joburg gym goer attempts to keep up, however always ending up dodging taxis, needles, and occasional hijackers. The running club has moved into the estate. The cycling crew needs extra security. The pilates machines got stolen. Yoga ended in a hospital visit. Even the poor dogs’ daily walks do not survive the chaos of the city.

From parenting to school runs to now gym routines, his skits brilliantly highlight the contrast while poking at the very real realities of life in South Africa’s two biggest cities.

And whether you are team Cape Town or Joburg, he has jokes for both lifestyles.
