South African 911 operators have a very different definition of “emergency.”

Global (09 February 2023) – What would happen if South Africa’s 10111 call centre operators took over America’s 911 services? Well, Trevor Noah asked this question during his “Between the Scenes” on The Daily Show and of course, the answer was hilarious.

The Daily Show is an Emmy and Peabody Award-winning program that looks at the day’s top headlines through a sharp, reality-based lens, covering the biggest news stories in politics, pop culture and more. The South African comedian became the Senior International Correspondent for The Daily Show in 2014 and then succeeded long-time host Jon Stewart the following year.

On the 29th of September 2022, Noah requested extra time during that night’s program and announced that he would be leaving The Daily Show after hosting the show for seven years. After revisiting stand-up comedy, he felt a longing to return to visiting countries for shows, learning new languages and “being everywhere, doing everything”. Luckily, his Daily Show skits will live on forever on the internet… and still be incredibly funny every time you watch them.

The 911 versus our 10111 short comedy sketch is from 2018 but recently started trending on social media again.
