South African President Zuma on the phone

Last week, a man calling himself an ‘MP’ who wished to remain anonymous called into 702 to dish the insider details on the no-confidence vote.

They decided to call him ‘Stanley’ to keep his anonymity. It was meant to be the ‘scoop of scoops’… a look at the insider plans of the Zuma supporters. The caller was going to give insight as to why so many MPs decided to side with the President during the vote of no-confidence.

But it turned out that the ‘MP’ was actually a prank-caller who made it onto live air with talk show host Bongani Bingwa.

The caller was trying to convince Bongani that Zuma won the vote of no-confidence because no one could deny that he was an incredibly confident man.

“So to provide some insight, the answer is actually quite simple, this is why… how can anyone in their right mind, ask us to agree that Jacob Zuma has no confidence? I mean, he has more confidence that anyone I have ever met!”

The ‘Weekly Expose’ uncovered the fact that the caller was in fact pranking the station.

“Sometimes live media can be brutal. We all remember the 702 news reader who went on his f*ck rant? That was bad, and Mr Esterhuizen resulted in many a blush. However, what happens when a prankster makes it through the producers and gets live on the air?”

“It must have appeared very juicy to 702. Here was an MP who was calling in to spill the beans on what happened in the vote – why the ANC members voted to keep President Jacob Zuma.”

Bongani handled the call like a professional the entire time but we’re sure many laughs ensued as soon as they went to a break.
