10 Disadvantaged Learners Receive Life-Changing Scholarships

Crew for a Cause, a charity born from a group of friends moved to help a learner with academic funding, has been empowered to change and improve the lives of 10 disadvantaged learners through the power of education, thanks to funding from the Star Foundation.

Western Cape, South Africa (13 March 2025) – We’ve all heard about how important securing a good education is to succeed and reach great heights. But alongside this widely held belief is the reality that many disadvantaged youngsters aren’t even able to put their foot through the door to schools or institutions that could help pave the path to a brighter future.

Crew for a Cause is a charity that works hard to address this issue by uplifting the education system in South Africa, one learner at a time, through academic funding.

What began as a simple act of generosity among 15 friends has grown into a powerful force for educational change. In 2017, they came together as a “Crew” to each contribute a small amount every month to the school fees of a single student.

Since then, the crew has grown to 310 members who collectively support a growing network of over 25 scholars across 10 schools. And thanks to a recent partnership with The Star Foundation, which contributed R460,000 to annual donations, 10 gifted learners from under-served communities will receive scholarships to attend prestigious high schools in the Western Cape.

This generous funding will greatly help these 10 learners gain the skills and education they need to unlock a new world of possibilities and the potential to achieve their dreams – because when you empower a dream, you change a future!
