People celebrated at the Charlotte Maxeke Academic Hospital yesterday because the first SA doctor to treat a public sector patient received his vaccine.
Johannesburg, South Africa (03 March 2021) – Dr Jarrod Zamperini was part of the team that treated the first case of COVID-19 at the Charlotte Maxeke Johannesburg Academic Hospital. He was one of the very first government-employed medical healthcare workers to face the virus in early March 2020.
Now a full year later, he joined his fellow healthcare workers to receive the vaccine. The moment was shared on social media, showing how South Africa has come full circle since those first days.
