Photographer Emma O’Brien donates her time to CLAW and takes photos of the dogs they have up for adoption; the latest is “Local is Lekker, Adoption is Lekker”.

Johannesburg, South Africa (13 June 2022) – Emma O’Brien is a portrait photographer specialising in human and animal photography. She is a champion for animal rescue and decided to use her talent to promote some underrated shelter animals. She works with CLAW (Community Led Animal Welfare) to help them find homes for their beautiful dogs up for adoption.

Emma’s love of photographing shelter animals started after researching and finding out that black shelter animals have the slowest rate of adoption and the highest rate of euthanasia. The last time we featured Emma, she had asked rescue pet owners who had adopted black shelter animals if she could photograph their happy faces. The hope was to try to help boost their adoption rates in South Africa.

Since then, she has donated her time and skill to CLAW (Community Led Animal Welfare) to promote their dogs up for adoption. Emma takes incredible images, and we adore the adoptees she shares. The latest session has already meant that two dogs have found homes.

CLAW (Community Led Animal Welfare) has been phenomenal in caring for animals during the pandemic (and always). They have continued to find loving homes for the animals in their care. If you are looking to adopt, this is the post for you. If you are unable to and still want to help out, you can reach out to offer food or monetary donations, and you can even volunteer your time and skills like Emma does with her photography. To find out how you can help, reach out here.

Boss joined CLAW and Emma to do a “Local is Lekker, Adoption is Lekker” campaign to hopefully get more dogs adopted. As Emma mentions in the video below, adopting an animal not only gives that animal a better life, but it opens a space for the next animal to come in and have a chance to be adopted.
