The EcoActive team are hosting a fun run this weekend at Muizenberg Beach to help fund their drowning prevention initiative and more!
Cape Town, South Africa (30 July 2024) — Laurie Bruns reached out to share the exciting news that EcoActive is hosting another beach run at Muizenberg Beach this weekend to raise funds and awareness for its work.
EcoActive is a life skill, drowning prevention, and learn-to-swim programme for young people in Capricorn Park, Lavender Hill, and surrounding areas.
“This year, we’re celebrating our 6th Annual Beach Run and EcoActive’s 10th year of empowering youth in the community. Join us on a day of fun, fitness, and making a difference.
Funds are raised for its Drowning and Dropout Prevention initiatives. Your participation will help ensure safety and brighter futures for our children.”
EcoActive is making a difference in children’s lives thanks to several initiatives. Making sure children stay in school and know how to swim is vital! It saves lives. The same can be said for teaching useful life skills. These are just three of the elements that EcoActive works through to support children from underserved areas.
Dropout Prevention
Having identified the critical dropout crises in underprivileged communities, the dropout prevention programme provides academic and emotional support to high school learners.
“We offer structured academic tutoring and life-skills programmes”
Drowning Prevention
The purpose is to ensure the safety of all youth near water by conducting water safety talks and implementing swimming lessons in underprivileged schools.
“Our Watersmart talks in partnership with Lifesaving South Africa, we present our water safety talks to all schools throughout the Western Cape. Every year over 500 grade four learners are receive weekly basic swimming lessons to help keep them safe around water through our Learn-to-Swim initiative.”
Skills Development
This programme aims to establish an environment where both the discipline of sport and life skills are taught; foster the development of good friendships and social skills; train prospective lifeguards to find seasonal employment; and empower the youth to maximise their potential through the support of life coaches and counsellors.
The fun run will boost their efforts. If you would like to take part, you can get your tickets here. There is a 5 km and a 7 km run both of which start at 08:30 am. If you cannot attend, you can follow the work they do here.
